Feature and Giveaway: Undercover Attraction by Katee Robert

Scandal. Wealth. Power. Seduction. Welcome to the world of the O'Malleys.

Ex-cop Charlotte Finch used to think there was a clear line between right and wrong. Then her fellow officers betrayed her, and the world is no longer so black and white. Especially when it's Aiden O'Malley, one of the most dangerous men in Boston, who offers her a chance for justice. The only catch: she'll have to pretend to be his fiancée for his plan to work.

Aiden can't afford to let anyone see the man behind the mask. To run the O'Malley empire, he has to be cool and controlled at all times. But the moment he meets Charlie, they're playing with fire. Her slightest touch is enough to send him over the edge. At first their "engagement" was a way to eliminate his enemies. Now he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe-- even if he has to destroy his own family to do it.

“Come on.” Aidan stepped back and took her hand. “I have something to show you.”

He led the way up the back stairs and through a door she hadn’t explored yet. Charlie’s breath caught in her throat at the sight of candles flickering on a table laid out with a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a whole spread of Chinese takeout.

She let go of his hand and wandered over to peer into the boxes. “How did you know that crispy pork belly was my favorite?” Just like that, the pieces clicked together. She snapped her fingers. “You had your sister feel me out?” She’d thought Kiera had been asking about her favorite food so they could pick a local place next time they ventured out of the house. “Shady. Very shady.”

“I am a mob boss, after all.” He came around the table and poured them both a glass of wine. “I have it on good authority that this cab pairs well with Chinese takeout.”

“How classy of you.” It was like stepping into another realm of existence as she sat down and accepted the glass of wine while he filled two plates. When Aiden had said that he wanted a dinner date with her, she’d assumed that meant dressing to the nines and going out somewhere fancy. She said as much.

He snorted. “Eating out always serves a purpose. Either you’re making a point, or ensuring you’re seen by someone specific, or conducting a business meeting. We’ve been making points and playing parts since we met. I’d like to try something new—having a relaxing conversation. Just me and you, Aiden and Charlie, not the leader of the O’Malley clan and the former-cop-turned-fake-fiancée.”

“Do you think that’s even possible?” Such a short time together, and it was clear they both had a boatload of issues. It was easy enough to ignore when they were banging each other’s brains out or pretending to be something they weren’t, but holding down a conversation without those masks in place? She wasn’t sure it was a good idea.

Because I already like him.

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her 2015 title, The Marriage Contract, was a RITA finalist, and RT Book Reviews named it 'a compulsively readable book with just the right amount of suspense and tension."  When not writing sexy contemporary and romantic suspense, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her children, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

ARC Review: The Sea King by C.L. Wilson

Finally I've got my hands on this long awaited sequel! The release date for this book was extended at least once, and I am so glad the wait is over. Except that I read it so fast, I'm back to waiting for the next book. Oh well, this will have to hold me over for awhile.

Picking up where we left off in The Winter King, Dilys Merimydion is collecting his reward from Khamsin Coruscate in helping her in the battle for Summerlea. He is awarded the chance for his men to find wives among the Summerlea women, and for Dilys in particular to court Khamsin's three sisters. There is no guarantee that any women will agree to marriages, but the Calbernans do not fret. Apparently they've been trained from boyhood on many things, including how best to make the women in their lives happy.

Dilys plans on focusing his attentions on the princesses who seem the most powerful, Spring and Autumn, with the hopes of acquiring a powerful mother to a future Calbernan queen. The third princess, Summer (Gabriella), is too gentle and doesn't have as much power as her sisters. Despite Dilys' well thought out plans with his political advisors, he experiences almost instant attraction to Summer.

Summer has turned wearing a mask to the world an art. She holds within her a dangerous power that she puts every thought and action of her being into hiding and keeping under control. However, lately she seems to be losing that control (and her temper) more easily. Upon meeting Dilys, she too experiences an instant attraction, but she becomes conflicted. She doesn't want and fears love, so she pushes him away in every way she can think of, including magical means.

All the while, the sea has been plagued by pirates that Dilys must get under control for the best interests of his country. A pirate who has unheard of powers that are defeating Dilys' best men. His mother, the Calbernan Queen, seems almost near Fading (basically dying), and if Dilys does not have a daughter before her passing, the throne will go to a cousin. The poor guy has a lot on his plate, and is just trying to do what's best for his country.

Dilys is very cocky and that bothered me a lot in this book. He was too confident in his romance skills, and he was way too pushy as well with Summer in my opinion. He does acknowledge his mistakes however, and tries to make things right. Many of the scenes between him and Summer made me laugh, and some made my heart hurt. There were some scary situations that happened in this book that made me nervous, and nearly throw up. I will give fair warning to readers that there is rape in this book. I don't know how I got through it, because usually I can't stomach it. I still feel sick thinking about it, and I honestly do wish it was omitted from the book.

This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me, and I think partially because of that I couldn't put the thing down. I'm highly anticipating the next book in this series, The Jaguar King. Hopefully the wait will not be as long.

Review: Mine, Forever by Kate Bonham

Mine, Forever is the first book that I have ever read from Kate Bonham, so I had no idea what to expect. I was given the opportunity to read this as a part of Quirky Blind Date with a Book, and this book is the reason that I love QBDWAB so much! I never would have experienced this author or book had it not been for Quirky. While this isn't what I typically read, the story was really interesting to me and I am glad I took the chance on this author.

I don't really want to get into the story too much because I really think this book is one best read blind. Don't go in with any spoilers or preconceived notions because Kate Bonham will surprise you here. When Jett and Ebony meet, their attraction and connection is immediate and strong. Their world has them doing whatever it takes to get what they want, nevermind the consequences.

This book was dark and gritty, and might best be described as intense. It will have you questioning so much, and yet you won't want to put it down. I really don't feel as though I have the right words to describe this without giving too much away. It was definitely twisted and I couldn't predict what would happen or how things would go. If you are looking for something different, you might give this one a shot. It definitely isn't for the faint of heart, but if you like dark reads this one is worth taking the chance on. Kate Bonham's writing style was captivating, and I would definitely read more from her in the future.
