ARC Review: Daddy's Best Friend by London Hale

Listen, I am by no means a prude. I like some of the most smutty of smutty books there are out there. This book is actually the perfect flavor of nasty for me but...I just couldn't do it with the age difference. You are fairly warned about exactly what this book is before it starts. So in all fairness, this really should be a 5 star review but what can I say? I underestimated the creep factor when i picked this one out and it was more than I could enjoy.

I don't need to give you a synopsis of this book because it's not that kind of read. It's only about 80 or 90 pages so not much a plot. 18 year old Evie has been hot for her Dad's best friend for a few years. Nathan, the best friend, is also hot for Evie. They hook up, it's nasty and super freaky, Dad finds out and is pissed, they move in together, book over. Most of the book is material that will make for great "self date" nights if you are not skeeved out by the relationship (like I was).

There were a couple of things that just made it really hard for me to enjoy this book. First was that Nathan is like 37 hooking up with an 18 year old. I'm 37 and I just couldn't picture or enjoy this. I just found it...distasteful. And then, it's not just love, it's this really over the top super freaky lust. Nathan is obsessive about Evie's P word and over the top possessive. It was just all too much for me. If you are positive that you have no problem with the age and life experience difference and you are a lover of erotic romance, I promise this will be like a 4 or 5 star read for you. For me, issa no.

ARC Review: Pipe Dreams by Sarina Bowen

I am a huge fan of Sarina Bowen's and I have loved everything I have read from her. This series is one of my favorites of hers and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, even if I was a bit worried before reading it. If you have read the previous books in the series, you will recognize Lauren as the cold and snobby assistant to Nate the team owner. You do not have to read the previous books as this is a standalone, but having read them I wasn't sure that I could ever really like Lauren after seeing her previously. Sarina is a great writer though, so if anyone could pull this off I knew it would be her.

Lauren and Mike were once in love, but then Mike made a choice that broke Lauren's heart. Since then she has done everything she can to avoid anything to do with him and the Bruisers. But when her boss Nate makes her take a more active roll with the team, Lauren is forced to face the man that destroyed her. Mike never forgot Lauren and hates that he hurt her, and is more determined than ever to make things right. But these two will have more than the past to worry about, as Mike's daughter could prove to be their biggest obstacle yet.

I really felt for Lauren. It was the last thing I expected, and yet I loved her when we got to see everything that had happened. It all became so clear, and I couldn't help but feel protective of her and my heart absolutely broke for all that she had been through. I loved seeing her open up to the girls here though and finally let them in on why she was the way she was. I loved their support and friendship, especially with how things started. I will admit that Mike was one that I struggled with a bit. While I understood his reasons for doing what he did and I saw things from all sides, I hated how things went down. It was clear that he was doing what he thought that he needed to, and yet he really hurt Lauren and that broke my heart as well as hers. He came out of it all looking good, while she hadn't fared the same. They had chemistry and a connection that had never died, yet there were a lot of really tough times and hurt that they went through as well.

Overall, this was another great story from Sarina. She really knows how to write an emotional and captivating story that will have leave you with all the feels. This one was filled with heartbreak and sadness at times, yet it was also filled with love and support. I was surprised just how much I ended up loving Lauren, and I was so glad that Sarina let us get to know her and see beneath the tough and cold exterior that we had only seen before. This series is one of my favorites and one I definitely recommend if you are a contemporary fan and especially if you love sports romance stories. No one does hockey romance like Sarina Bowen, and I can't wait to read more from her!

ARC Review: Into the Heat by Tamara Lush

Into the Heat is the second book in the Burning Secrets series by Tamara Lush. Each book is a standalone story though, so if you haven't read the first book like I hadn't you can easily read this one on it's own. This was my first book by Tamara Lush, but it won't be my last. I enjoyed this second chance romance, and I really liked Tamara's writing style.

Leo joined the Marines and went off to Afghanistan, leaving Jessica behind broken hearted. When he returns though, he is no longer the same man he was before. Now suffering from PTSD he knows that the chances of Jessica wanting anything to do with him are slim. But they quickly discover that the attraction and chemistry are still there. Will they be able to have a second chance at love, or will there be too many things standing in their way?

I liked both Leo and Jess. I thought that they were great for one another. Each of them had issues and there was a lot that had happened to each of them. Yet they were able to help each other heal and move forward with their lives. I thought that they had a great connection and chemistry that hadn't diminished with the time apart and circumstances of their split.

Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot. It was sweet and full of hope and love. I thought that Tamara Lush did a great job of portraying some real life struggles in a respectful way and it felt genuine to me. If you are looking for a good second chance romance, this is one I would recommend checking out.

Feature and Giveaway: Daddy's Best Friends by London Hale

She’s temptation personified

Nathan had always been more than just my dad’s friend. I never thought he’d see me as an adult, especially not after avoiding me for so long. But one hug, one moment feeling every inch of him against me, shattered that illusion. Consequences no longer mattered—I was eighteen, and I was willing to risk everything for my shot with him.

He’s not going to resist anymore

I never should’ve seen Eve as more than my best friend’s daughter. As a cop, I knew it was wrong. It was my job to protect her from guys like me. Chasing her could cost me my career—not to mention the only family I’d ever known—but I couldn’t hold back another second. One taste, and I wanted her. To hell with the fallout.

Purchase: | Amazon |

How in the fuck had we gotten here? All I’d needed was an escape so I could get my dick in check. Just some goddamn peace and quiet so I could get my head in the fucking game again—remind myself why I couldn’t snatch Eve away from Shithead and claim her right there in front of everyone.

But I’d wanted to.

Christ, more than anything, I’d wanted to wipe that smug grin off his pretty-boy face. With my fist. Break every one of his fucking fingers when he’d wrapped his arm around her and tugged her into his side.

And now here she was, on her knees in front of me, and I couldn’t do anything but stare. I should’ve stopped her. If I were a better man—a stronger man—I would’ve. Instead, I watched with rapt attention as those full lips kissed the tip of my cock, her bubble-gum tongue flicking out to lick at the head.

“Let me,” she begged.

And I was gone.

I was so fucking gone for this girl.

I fumbled to set my beer bottle on the counter, then reached out and brushed her hair back from her face, gathering the long, dark strands in my hand as she continued to tease me. She licked me like a lollipop, her tongue eager and clumsy, her unpolished enthusiasm only illustrating exactly how young she was.

That thought alone shouldn’t have tightened my balls the way it did.

Mad at her for putting me in this position—mad at myself for not having the willpower to stop it—I tightened my hand in her hair. “If you’re going to do it, do it. Open up and let me slide my cock between those pretty pink lips.”

She groaned, her eyes flashing up to mine, a flush covering her cheeks. Reaching out, she rested her hands on my thighs, balancing herself. And then she did as I told her, engulfing the tip of my cock in her mouth.

“Jesus.”

The sight alone was enough to make my knees weak—her lips stretched taut around me and her sky-blue eyes staring up into mine—but combine it with the heaven that was her mouth, and I didn’t stand a fucking chance. I’d had all of seven seconds between her lips, and I already needed to go off down her throat. I was a grown man—a grown man who hadn’t gotten a blow job in months, but a grown man nonetheless. And yet I felt like I was no better than those little douche- bags she went to school with who didn’t know the meaning of delayed gratification.

I knew plenty about delayed gratification.

Watching her prance around in her tiny dresses, her perky tits taunting me even in my dreams, but not letting myself do anything about it. I’d had a full year of wanting but not taking, and the deprivation was bubbling under my skin, threatening to boil over at any second.

I was so tired of wanting. I needed to have.

ARC Review: The Negotiator by Avery Flynn

The Negotiator is a entertaining and fun contemporary romance. The book follows a well worn trope of the faked engagement that starts to turn into something real. The author keeps things interesting with great storytelling, interesting characters and some good support from the secondary cast.

Sawyer is dealing with his elite socialite Mother who is determined to marry him off. Sawyer is the CEO of some huge family business  and his Mother has made it her business to ensure that he finds a suitable wife. Sawyer's brother Hudson gets the "bright" idea to hire Sawyer a personal buffer. Hudson wants to help Sawyer find someone who can keep their Mother off Sawyer's back until Sawyer can close some major business deal. Enter Clover.

Clover is a free spirit/world traveler. Clover's entire life mission is not to miss out on any adventure. Clover's sub-goal is not to end up like her Mother. In Clover's mind, her Mother gave up everything she wanted in life because she got pregnant and married. Clover's perception is that long term love is stifling and what matters most is freedom. When Clover sees the ad for the temporary job as a personal buffer, it's perfect for her. There is no long term commitment and Clover can earn enough money to finance her next adventure.

Clover and Sawyer together are something to see. Sawyer's world is carefully controlled. He's committed to working towards the "big picture" goals but he misses out on all the details of life. On the other hand, Clover is so committed to enjoying the details, she is missing out on some of the big picture. Clover and Sawyer are both sweet and funny together. Each has what the other one is lacking life perspective and their chemistry in the bedroom is hot. Sawyer's Mother was a bit much but hold back judgment on her. All of the family members help the couple to see what it is they're missing and find their HEA.

This is a really sweet and well written contemporary romance. Add this to your summer reading list.

ARC Review: Dr. OB by Max Monroe

This is my first Max Monroe book, but I have heard great things, and this book sounded like one I would really love. Unfortunately this was not what I had hoped for, and to be honest I was disappointed with the story. Not only did I struggle getting into the book itself, but I struggled with the characters themselves.

Dr. Will Cummings agreed to be a part of a docuseries about his career in Obstetrics, but what he thought was a serious show was anything but. When it aired, it became clear that those behind the show had set out to mislead the audience and capture every bit of flirting and any behavior that could possibly cross the lines leading to him being referred to as Dr. Obscene. So when Melody finds herself back at home and looking for a job, not having seen the show she lands the job as his office is tired of women applying for the nursing position just to get a crack at Dr. Obscene. But can Will prove to Melody that he is more than Dr. Obscene after she sees what he is like on air?

I had some issues with both Will and Melody. Melody was hard to like at times, doing things that made absolutely no sense at all. She was a bit immature and she also wasn't great with communication. She forgave too easily at times for my taste, and honestly she just irritated me at others. Will was sweet and I loved that he paid attention to what Melody liked and things that were important to her. But he also caused problems for me here. He lied to Melody about something that I felt was important, and then blew it off as though it was no big deal. (which was made worse when she forgave him for it as if it were such) I just felt like these two acted far younger than their ages and frankly it drove me nuts. I hated that he had lied to her and that she forgave him, but I also really hated that she sat through what had to have been one of the most awkward and hurtful things I can think of when it comes to a new relationship and that it was all resolved as easily as it was.

I also felt like this story was just a bit too over the top at times for my taste, as though the humor was trying too hard. While I found a bit of it funny, some things just seemed to be overdone and that had me putting this book down and not wanting to pick it back up. I did end up finishing, though it took me a few days when I normally am a quick reader. The only reason this one was 3 stars for me was because I did finish when I wanted to give up a few times. There was something telling me I needed to finish it, though it was just okay in the end. While I have heard great things about Max Monroe's books, I might wait a bit to check out more and see if maybe this is just me. If this one sounds like something you might like, you might give it a go. For me though, this just wasn't what I had been hoping for.

Amy Ayers remembers writing her first fiction as an introspective tween in rainy Portland, Oregon. She took a break from writing to move with her family to the desert of Phoenix, Arizona.
